After a little over a year of matrimony, actress Malinda Williams and photographer Derrick “D-Nice” Jones have filed for divorce, according to TheYBF.com.
The site reports that the couple wed in August 2008 and mutually filed for separation in October 2009. Although the pair has no kids together, D-Nice has a daughter and Williams a son with her ex-husband, actor Mekhi Phifer.
D-Nice confirmed the divorce proceedings via a statement: “I ask that our privacy be honored during this extremely personal time. I thank my family and fans for their endless support.”
Williams hasn’t commented on the separation or divorce yet.
In a previous interview with Essence, the actress spoke candidly about her divorce from Phifer, stating: “When my marriage broke down I was so angry because I didn’t want to stop loving Mekhi. Yes, I wanted to stop living with him and I wanted to stop doing some of the things we did together, but I didn’t want to stop loving him so it made me angry because I was struggling—I don’t know what I was struggling with probably struggling with myself—but I was thinking, I don’t want to stop loving you so how do I do that?” —Clover Hope
